Best practices for maps

Maybe it doesn't deserve a whole course, but at least a chapter in "UI components best practices" about maps would be great, because there's so much to take in consideration like color choices, how to avoid scroll issues, accessibility… and it's quite difficult to find good resources on the subject that covers all of those aspects.
